Paint protection film is an optically clear urethane film applied over your paint. The film we install is 8 mil β considerably thicker than a wrap vinyl β with a self-healing elastomeric layer that lets light swirls flatten out with heat, and a ceramic top coat that resists the things which etch clear coat.
It does three jobs: it absorbs impact energy that would otherwise chip paint, it heals its own fine scratches, and it resists bird droppings, sap and acidic deposits. It is not armour β a hard enough hit will still mark a panel β but it converts the everyday attrition that ruins a front end into something invisible.
Coverage runs in tiers because the value is not evenly distributed. The bumper, hood, fenders, mirrors and lights take essentially all of the impact damage, which is why full-front coverage is the most popular kit we install.

Lava rock is sharp and it does not round off the way ordinary grit does. It chips front ends on the highway, and it scratches paint badly when a dusty car gets wiped down dry.
Coastal air carries salt well inland on this coast. Salt accelerates corrosion wherever paint is already compromised, so a stone chip that has gone to primer is an entry point rather than a cosmetic problem.
