Track Pack PPF on a Mercedes G-Class

A G-Wagon that sees gravel driveways and coastal road. Track Pack takes the film past the front end onto the rockers, lower doors and A-pillars where the damage really lands.

01 //The challenge

What this vehicle is up against

A G-Class is tall, boxy and flat-sided, and that shape changes where the damage goes. On a low car most stone chips land on the bumper and the leading edge of the hood. On this one the front tyres sit well ahead of a long, upright flank, so gravel gets thrown down the sides β€” rockers, lower doors, and up onto the A-pillars and the leading edge of the roof. A front-only kit on this vehicle protects the panels that were never the problem. Add unsealed driveways, the grit that collects on the shoulder of coastal roads, and salt air that turns any opened chip into a spreading edge, and the flanks matter as much as the nose. The slab sides also mean nothing is hidden: a chip halfway down a flat white door is at eye level from the sidewalk.

02 //The approach

What we would install, and why

Track Pack is the kit that matches this shape. It is everything in the Ultimate full-front β€” full hood, full fenders, bumper, lights, mirrors, door edges and cups β€” plus the panels that get sandblasted on island roads: rocker panels, A-pillars and the roof edge, lower doors, and the rear bumper loading edge. That last one is the least glamorous piece on the list and the one owners thank you for, because it is the panel a cooler or a set of golf clubs drags across every weekend. On a vehicle with this many hard corners and exposed hinges, the plotter-cut patterns matter more than usual β€” a hand-cut kit around a G-Class door hinge is how paint gets scored. Prep is the same as any film job: decontamination wash, clay and a light polish so nothing is trapped under the urethane, then a wet install with edges tucked where the panel geometry allows.

03 //The result

What the owner ends up with

The result is a vehicle that can actually be used as one. The flanks and rockers are the panels that decide whether a G-Class looks cared-for or looks worked, and they are now behind 8 mil of self-healing film with a ceramic top coat. The film is optically clear, so a flat white or black flank stays uniform β€” no visible line halfway down the door. Salt spray and red dirt rinse off the hydrophobic top coat rather than etching in. Aftercare is the standard film routine: no washing for seven days, then hand washes with a pH-neutral soap, and let the sun do the work on any light swirl marks. Ten-year warranty on the film against yellowing, cracking, peeling and bubbling β€” and, on a vehicle that holds its value the way this one does, factory paint under all of it at resale.

04 //Highlights

The short version.

  • Track Pack: everything in the full-front kit, plus the flanks
  • Rocker panels, lower doors, A-pillars and roof edge covered
  • Rear bumper loading edge β€” the panel every cooler and bag drags across
  • Plotter-cut patterns around hinges and hard corners, no hand-cutting
  • Hydrophobic ceramic top coat so red dirt and salt spray rinse rather than etch
  • 10-year warranty; factory paint intact under every filmed panel
