Serving Ocean View

Why Ocean View comes to us.

Ocean View is the largest community in Kaʻū, spread across a very large area of lava slopes at around 1,570 feet, south of us on Māmalahoa Highway. It is remote by design and by geography — the subdivisions run for miles across old flows, and a lot of the roads within them are unpaved or roughly surfaced cinder.

That is the defining fact for a vehicle here. Sharp volcanic cinder is abrasive in a way ordinary road dust is not, and it does not round off. It sandblasts lower panels, it collects in every seam, and — this is the part that does the real damage — it scratches paint badly when someone wipes a dusty car down dry. Add the long highway runs to Kona or Nāʻālehu for anything the town does not stock, and you have a vehicle collecting both chips and swirls.

The practical answer is protection that suits a working rural vehicle rather than a show car: front-end paint protection film for the highway miles, rocker panel coverage for the subdivision roads, and a ceramic coating so that dust releases with water rather than needing to be rubbed off. Ceramic tint handles the sun on a cab that parks in the open. We are about an hour and fifteen north, so we book Kaʻū jobs as a single planned drop-off.
